More and more studios are on the lookout for projects that will translate to the western and Asian film audience. And it seems these companies a found a potential one – Canada’s Rare Earth Media and China’s Ray Production, as an adaptation of “Phoenix: The Life of Norman Bethune,” by Roderick and Sharon Stewart.
The story of a doctor who served in the Communist Army during the 2nd Sino-Japanese War and brought medicine to rural China. A physician, medical innovator, and noted Communist, Bethune was eulogized by Chinese leader Mao Zedong.
The project will be introduced at Hong Kong’s FilMart this week. No director has been set.
