‘David Sheff’s biographical book “Beautiful Boy: A Father’s Journey Through His Son’s Addiction,” which recounts his struggle watching his son, Nic, fall into methamphetamine addiction. Steve Carell is playing David in the movie, while indie breakout Timothée Chalamet is playing the meth-addicted son. The role is expected to bring Chalamet back into the awards conversation less than a year after “Call Me by Your Name” earned him his first Oscar nomination. A big contender for Amazon Studios and it marks the English-language debut of Belgian director Felix Van Groeningen.
“Beautiful Boy” opens in select theaters October 12, which means the film will most likely skip Cannes and premiere at Telluride or Toronto in September.’
