4 Kid Walk Into a Bank by Matthew Rosenberg & Tyler Boss (Black Mask Comics, 2017)

Agent: Matthew Rosenberg

Status:

Summary: 4 KIDS WALK INTO A BANK is the darkly comedic story of four burgeoning child criminals and their elaborate plans. When a group of bumbling criminals shows up in her father’s life looking to pull one last job, young Paige has two choices – let her father get caught up in their criminal hijinks or enlist her three best friends to do the job first. Paige picks the bad one. 180ish pages of full-color comic-booking about friendship, family, growing up, and grand larceny.

Notes: This story is everything and it nails it all. There are four D&D playing kids and four asshole adults, and boy do they get into it. Paige our spunky little heroes is not afraid to tell these losers to fuck-off a la Hitgirl. Paige and her three male friends are all around 11. Paige finds out that her dad’s former friends are back in town to rob a bank with Paige’s dad and Paige decides to stop this by robbing the bank first. These kids are great, nasty and dumb and this all has consequences. A roller-coaster story – laughter, shocking, and maybe a single slow tear will roll down your face. The humor is some of the best I’ve read. The dialogue is very real and not sugar-coated. It’s essentially a compelling story about kids doing things kids should never even think about doing 😛 Super dark and witty. Plus littered with fantastic nerd references.
