Kenneth Branagh starring adaptation of A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towle

91tmJsGEMwL.jpg‘Kenneth Branagh is teaming up with Mark Gordon in Entertainment One’s television adaptation of A Gentleman in Moscow.

He is set to star in and produce Tom Harper’s adaptation of Amor Towles’ novel, which tells the story of a man who is ordered to spend the rest of his life inside a luxury hotel.

Branagh will play the novel’s protagonist Count Alexander Rostov, starting in Russia’s turbulent early 1920s and spanning 30 years. When the Count is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, he is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Having never worked a day in his life, he must now live in one room as history is being made outside.

He produces alongside Harper, who is currently in pre-production on the upcoming Amazon feature, The Aeronauts, and Xavier Marchand of Moonriver Content. The studio optioned the book last year from publisher Viking, a division of Penguin Random House. Carolyn Newman and Polly Williams are spearheading the project for eOne, which controls worldwide rights.
