Film producer Ileen Maisel (The Golden Compass) has signed a first-look deal with Fox 21 Television Studios. Under the pact, Maisel will develop TV projects through her Amber Television banner, starting with a TV series adaptation of Anna Day’s dystopian YA novel The Fandom.
The Fandom was published in January by Chicken House in the U.K.. The book stems from competition The Big Idea, a joint initiative by Chicken House, the publishing company of Barry Cunningham, and The Blair Partnership. Scholastic is releasing the book in May.
Written by Day based on an idea by 2014 The Big Idea runner-up Angela McCann, The Fandom centers around Violet and her friends who love being part of the fandom for The Gallows Dance, a dystopian Y.A. book and film franchise she and her friends adore. After a freak accident befalls them at Comic-Con, they’re somehow catapulted into the story itself – for real. Trapped in a twisted world where they’ve accidentally killed the original hero, Rose, there’s only one way to survive: Violet must fill Rose’s shoes and put the plot back on track.
Maisel is repped by WME. Day and Cunningham are repped by attorney Jonathan Blair.
