‘Gotham’ Final Season Trailer

The end of the beginning starts in January — that’s one way to think of the Jan. 3 return of Fox’s Gotham for its fifth and final season exploring the preamble years of Batman’s crimefighting career.

In the just-arrived trailer for the swan-song season, it’s clear that the Gotham of television is approaching the era depicted in the silver-screen versions when it becomes notorious as the haunting hometown of a mysterious Caped Crusader.

The series is from executive producer and writer Bruno Heller and executive producers Danny Cannon and John Stephens and it’s followed the rise of lawman Gordon in a city festering with corruption and teetering between good and evil.

The farewell season takes Wayne to the dawn of his costumed crime-fighting career as Batman, the iconic DC Comics character who celebrates his 80th year of publication in 2019.

The Fox series also stars Donal Logue as Detective Harvey Bullock; Sean Pertwee as Alfred Pennyworth; Robin Lord Taylor as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin; Erin Richards as Barbara Kean; David Mazouz as Bruce Wayne; Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle/the future Catwoman; Cory Michael Smith as Edward Nygma/The Riddler; Chris Chalk as Lucius Fox; Morena Baccarin as Lee Thompkins; Jessica Lucas as Tabitha Galavan; Cameron Monaghan as Jerome/Jeremiah Valeska; David W. Thompson as Jonathan Crane/The Scarecrow; and Shane West as Eduardo Dorrance/Bane.
